U.S. Academic Technology Transfer Models: Traditional, Experimental and Hypothetical

This Les Nouvelles article reviews the traditional technology transfer models as well as more recent experimental approaches and hypothetical alternative models.

This Les Nouvelles article reviews different technology transfer operating models that have stood the test of time in the US over the 30 years since the Bayh-Dole Act. Next to these traditional models more recent experimental approaches are discussed as well as more radical models proposed at a hypothetical level, which aim at addressing the growing focus on generating revenues. This overview of the past, present and (possible) future of the US academic technology transfer is a an excellent reference document when reflecting on the operation and objectives of an European technology transfer office.
