Creating start-up companies: Evaluating the ‘success’ of a start-up company

This presentation provides an overview of the different approaches for assessing the success and impact of a start-up company.

Many different aspects determine whether a start-up company is a success. Furthermore, the perception of success depends on the point of view and the particular involvement of the party assessing the success. For instance, a founding researcher who has seen his/her share in the company diluting through multiple investment rounds can be disappointed in the financial return, while being delighted because the products of the company helped many patients for which no treatment options were available. This presentation provides an overview of the different approaches for assessing the success and impact of a start-up company.
